Brief Answer:
This is cellulitis..Infection of the soft tissue!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this swelling and redness that you have reported. I have reviewed your information fully and the attached images as well and it is suggestive of an infection of the soft tissue of the skin. This is generally referred to as cellulitis. It would be very important for her to get antibiotics treatment for this. Antibiotics can only be prescribed by her treating physician. For this reason, I will suggest that she sees her physician as soon as possible without delay. For skin infections, please avoid using drugs such as ibuprofen for pain control as they can actually worsen the infection. Applying ice packs for pain relief is highly encouraged.

In all, this is an infection. Needs immediate consultation for antibiotics. Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, naproxen, etc are highly discouraged.

I hope this helps. I wish your grand daughter well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
