Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Pain In The Leg

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Aug 2016
Question: I have swelling and cramp type pain in the muscle along the shin of my right leg. I am 71 years of age and very active. 100 miles/week on my bike and weights in the gym. There is no recent injury to that leg that is memorable, but the right knee has for a few days felt as if it had been strained. The right knee has had surgery 20 years ago to repair damage from an accident. There are metal screws still in place. The other leg is normal. I have no fever and generally otherwise feel fine. I have continued my exercise activities during the five or six days I have had this problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX

Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

Hope this message finds you in good health.
I have gone through your complaints and understand your concern.

First of all,let me congratulate you for maintaining suc a healthy anf fit physique at the age of 71 ! - Definitely Creditable

I generally see many cases like this at my clinic and have found out that such cases are mostly from a nerve or a muscle strain caused unknowingly during the daily routine activities.
The surgery that u have gone through and the screws you have mentioned about, have nothing to do with the present complaints.
It seems a nerve or a tendon around the knee and radiating to the leg has been inflammaed, due to some minor strain during gym or any routine activity.

What needs a mention is that you should not continue to do exercise activities when any such thing has strained. Infact, arest for 4-5 days is highly recommended to get the inflammed tissue to normal.
If its not relieved, a compression bandage, hot fomentation, analgesic tablets and a local analgesic gel may help.

You should eventually get back to normal in coming few days.Nothing to worry about, as long as i am there to help you.

I hope your question has been answered.
Feel free to consult me anytime for follow-up queries. Take care,God bless.
Wish you a healthy life : )
