Question: My 17 year old daughter is a pitcher she got hit in her left shin by a line drive. This happened 10 days ago. The area is swollen, it has a slight lump. She has felt pain all along, off and on. She has pain to the touch. We iced it. She is feeling warmth from it. Pain to the touch. Could it be broken?
How long should we wait to get xrays.

Brief Answer:
This is not broken!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this accident that occurred. Her bone is not broken. If it were broken,. she would have been unable to walk and bear weight on it. The fact that she can still bear weight on it suggests that she didn't sustain a fracture. I will recommend that you add ibuprofen to tylenol and carry on with the treatment. Should pain persist, they we will get an x-ray just to make sure there is nothing we are missing out on. If the pain persist with no significant regression within 72hours, then lets' get an X-ray to make sure there is nothing we are missing out on. However, would be very unlikely that she has a fracture.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.
