Question: My ring finger of my right hand smashed while closing a door. i kept the finger under flowing water and gently massaged to enhance blood flow. Initially there was a blue mark and later blood started coming out of it. there is swelling and numbness in the tip of my finger. i am able to fold my finger. there is dull pain and feel hot in the finger. Brief Answer:
could be a fracture

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Iam Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.

You have a smashed ring finger of right hand and are feeling pain and are unable to bend it. Normally there is no fracture in these type of cases , but since you are unable to bend it I would suggest an X ray of the finger to see if some small fracture is there.Swelling and numbness would go after sometime . As immediate measure , keep the finger straight and take pain killers. If any fracture is seen in x rays then go and see your orthopedic surgeon.
hope for all the best and please don't hesitate to ask any further queries.

Hi Dr XXXXXXX
I am able to fold my fingers comfortably as i have mentioned in the earlier query. I have numbness, feeling hot and swelling around the area. Also there is absolutely no pain and i do not know if it is because the finger is numb.
Now doctor do u advise me to visit a doctor or should i look for some symtopms in particular. how to bring down the swelling

Brief Answer:
good results

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX , I am Dr Gopal Goel , orthopedic surgeon.
In case you are able to bend your finger , then there is no need for immediate x rays.
As far as the swelling is concerned , it will take some days to disappear. Numbness appears since some minor nerves are damages during injury ,it will also disappear over time.
In case you feel that swelling is increasing , started paining or there is change in color of finger , then you should consult your doctor.
Hope i have answered your question, and again do not hesitate to ask further questions.
