Suggest Treatment For Stuck Lemon Seed In Throat

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Dec 2014
Question: I had a lemon seed set stuck in my throat last night. After coughing a lot and almost throwing up a few times the seed moved to what feels like the bottom of my nasal passage way. I no longer feel it in my throat. Am not having trouble breathing. The only time I can feel it move is breathing in through my nose a certain way... but then my gag reflex kicks in and I swallow and the seed moves back to its resting place

Brief Answer:
Nasal endoscopy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. It is highly unlikely for a lemon seed to move back and forth in the nasal passage and not fall out of the nasopharynx back into the throat.

2. The lemon seed may have been forced into the nasopharynx or nasal cavity while coughing or there may be abrasions caused by the seed which are felt.

3. Imaging will not help here, only direct visualization with nasal endoscopy or a posterior rhinoscopy can help look for the seed.

4. There is no major issue except that it should not inadvertently become a lower airway foreign body. Hence get the direct examination done soon.

If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
