Question: I sneeze very hard two days a go and the muscles on my throat seem to be very soared, specially since I have a cold and I have to blow my nose, every time I blow my nose, I feel like my XXXXXXX apple is going to come out... it almost feel like something is stock around my XXXXXXX apple, almost the feeling when someone is really nervous and chokes up.... could someone tell me how to cure this, I had this happen to me last year and the nose and throat dr just told me that it goes away by itself after checking the back of my throat with the camera, then he said that it was stress related. Any suggestions ? BTW, I had my uvula and tonsils removed 7 years ago due to sleep apnea in my past.

Brief Answer:
You are having allergic post nasal discharge.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

As per your clinical history it appears that you are having allergic post nasal discharge causing feeling of something stuck in throat .
Uvula facilitates flow of postnasal discharge back in throat . Since you have sleep apnea surgery with uvula cut , you have to blow nose to clear secretions.

If I were your treating Doctor for this case , I would advice you

Steam Inhalation twice daily,
Saline nasal spray thrice daily ,
Plenty of fluids,
Antiseptic chlorhexidine Mouth Wash twice daily ,
Paracetamol for pain &
Antihistaminic levocetirizine + Montelukast combination one at night when cold & sneezing .

You will get relief.

Hope this answer helpful to you . If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Regards.

But it feels more like a muscular pain than a sore throat. It feels like someone hit me on the XXXXXXX APPLE after I sneeze and by mistake I hold my sneeze, very different from a soar-throat, and no, there is not that much discharge, very little, and I irrigate my nose 3 times a day with Saline, take pain medicine, try to rinse the back of my throat twice a day with Antiseptic Chlorhexidine mouth wash but I do not think Allergic Post nasal discharge is the issue or what I am referring to. Thank you for the response.

Brief Answer:
Don't hold sneeze.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the follow up query.

Don't hold sneeze, it is due reflex action secondary to nasal irritation . It carries strong intra thoracic pressure, can cause damage to lung & larynx if you try to hold it which will cause pain.

Yes, you have muscular pain because you try to blow block nose against resistance & try resist sneezing.

Above treatment plan will decrease sneezing & need to blow nose frequently against resistance.

It will clear block nose. Hence muscular pain will be less during blowing nose.

Hope this answer helpful to you. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Regards.
