Posted on Tue, 21 Jun 2016
Question: I often lying down to take a 20 minute nap in the middle of the day. The past couple weeks my heart seems to be beating really hard and sometimes I don't feel like I'm falling asleep for my nap. I'm under a lot of stress because of the pain in my foot. But I've never felt my Beat really hard like this. I was at my internal medicine doctor just a couple weeks ago and she listen to my heart and said it was OK during a visit for an earache. Is this something I should be worried about. Because of my problems with my spine there have been x-rays that have noted atherosclerosis

Brief Answer:
Get ECG

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
It seems to me that you are having Palpitations secondary to anxiety and this is usually transient.
However, to that this is just anxiety related, we should be sure for the other possible causes of such palpitations.
So, first of all get your ECG done and if that is normal, i would recommend you to
get a repeat thyroid profile done just to re-check your thyroid levels as fluctuations in them can also cause you such palpitations.
If everything comes out to be normal, i would recommend you meditation and if no relief with that, you would need to take help of SSRI like Escitalopram for a short duration.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.

Is an ECG the test done at the internal medicine office where they hook up the machine with tiny stick ons? It is painless. Takes a few minutes. You get the results right away. The nurse does it to you. Or is it a bigger test needing a cardiology office? Thx.

Brief Answer:
Just Anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hi, yes your description fits into ECG. And is the basic test that is required for cardiac evaluation.
It just seems to me anxiety related issue and you should try meditation and take help of a Psychiatrist if it fails.
Good Luck.
