Brief Answer:
Treatment of anxiety disorder is needed for these symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HEALTH CARE MAGIC for your health related queries

I can understand your problem. You have severe stress and anxiety and you are not able to function properly. You were sexually abused for about 6 years. Xanax or Alprazolam is helping.

Alprazolam is a benzodiazepine drug and it is a good drug for severe anxiety and stress. The drug is know to produce tolerance if used for prolonged periods of time on regular basis. If the drug is helping you then you can continue to take the drug on SOS basis but not on regular basis. The drug can reduce the symptoms of anxiety but it will not treat anxiety completely.

Other drugs especially SSRI drugs like Sertraline, Paroxetine etc or SNRIs like Duloxetine can help to reduce severe anxiety and stress. These drugs will also help you to come out of trauma of sexual abuse and will reduce these thoughts. These drugs are free of side effects and can be taken on regular basis even for prolonged periods of time without risk of dependence or tolerance. You should visit a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.

Apart from medicine non medicinal methods mainly Cognitive therapy and Behaviour therapy will help you to come out of severe anxiety and stress symptoms. Cognitive therapy can help to change abnormal thought processes and cognitive distortions and will help to come out of depression. Behaviour therapy will help to come out of anxiety and your symptoms will reduce. You can discuss with your doctor regarding these therapies.

I would also advise you to go for relaxation exercises like Progressive Muscles Relaxation Exercises, Meditation and Breathing Exercises to keep yourself relaxed and this will reduce the trauma of abuse. Try to divert your attention and keep yourself busy in work or talking to your close people. This will reduce the pain.

I hope this helps you. Don't hesitate to ask again for more doubts.

Thanks, Take Care
