Brief Answer:
You will require a potent antibiotic with povidone iodine throat spray..

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query. I do understand your problem. I will try my best to help you with this.

If the throat is positive for the streptococcal infection, then taking penicillin for just 5 days will not suffice. As you have already discontinued with the medicines, you can try either a combination of amoxicillin with clavulanic acid or clarithromycin to treat the infection. In addition, you will also require some other medicines and home remedies to take of the sore throat.

My suggestions to you are:
1. Drink plenty of warm water. Warm water will increase the blood circulation to the affected area and reduces the bacterial load as well as the inflammation.
2. Try taking povidone iodine throat spray or gargles. Iodine is a good local antiseptic which will clear all the bacteria in the throat.
3. A potent anti-inflammatory medicine such as ibuprofen or diclofenac is beneficial in reducing the pain and inflammation in the throat.
4. Avoid chilled food and beverages, coffee and smoking, if any.

Hope with these above measures you will feel better. Revert back to me, if you have any follow-up queries.
