Suggest Treatment For Strange Body Odor After A Hormone Replacement Therapy

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Feb 2016
Question: Hi Doctor, everything I eat and drink I smell coming out of my pokes within the next few hours. I started bioidentical hormone replacement therapy two years ago. When I first noticed the smell it was apple cider vinegar, I stopped drinking that, then coffee I stopped drinking that, now it is everything I eat. Whatever I have for dinner, I smell coming out of my poors the next day. I spoke with my hormone doctor he told me to stop taking the probiotics. I stopped taking for over one month and that didn't change anything so I started taking again. I really need some help with this, I am a woman who is dating and I am so self conscious of my body odor. When I where certain perfumes the food smell changes the smell of the perfume and most times it ends up being a horrible smell. This situation is affecting my life on several levels. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hello xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,

Thank you for writing in to us at health care magic. This is Dr.Riyanka Chail glad to be answering your query.

I understand your concern of being repeatedly conscious about your body odor.
We could go about the problem step by step.
a)Firstly could you please provide me the list of medications you are taking. There are certain drugs that can lead to this problem.
Also are you on any antidepressants off late?

b) You can try the following for a day or two and see the difference :
1. Take bath daily in XXXXXXX warm water and using antiseptic antibacterial soaps.
2. Regularly keep the underarms shaved.
3. You can use a prickly heat powder after bath to prevent over perspiration.

Also , you can ask a person very close to you as in if they are able to smell what you have been getting i.e;previous day's meal.People around you can guide you about the smell . It is important to know a person who lives in close proximity with you, if they are able to percieve a smell or not. and if yes then what kind of smell is it?

Hope this answered your query.

About a year ago, I started taking Black Seed Oil 2 teaspoons per day. 1 morning 1 at night. I stopped drinking the oil and started taking the pills because I started smelling the oil coming out of my poors. I still smell, however not nearly as strong as the oil. I also started drinking something called wood root tonic by sundial. Other than those additions I was previous taking multivitamin, fish oil, coq10, b complex vitamin, CLA, L-Carnitine, vitamin D, biotin, alpha lipoic acid, selinium, zinc, during work out I drink alpha amino supplement. Magnesium, calcium, b-12

Brief Answer:
Kindly donot take herbal supplements , instead opt for balanced diet

Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam,
Thank you for writing back to us.

Since you have informed that you are on Hormonal Replacement Therapy(HRT) , i would like to comment that HRT causes certain reversible changes in the body and one of them being that they alter the behaviour of sweat glands as well as olfactory senses as HRT consists of oestrogens.Hence, it is possible that due to hormonal replacement therapy your body odor has become more sweet or musky . Also your olfactory sensations have increased because of which your sense of olfaction (smell) has increased.

Since black seed oil , wood root tonic are herbal , i suggest you could stop taking them for a week. Let them get cleared off the body system by metabolism and excretion.

Taking amino acid supplement and repeated multivitamins unless indicated by a physician is not appropriate. Hence, it is better if you can stop taking all this.

Instead you should consume a balanced diet consisting of lots of fruits and vegetables and lean meat as a source of protein.

You can try this for a week , let the herbal medications get cleared from the system and see if you still can perceive the odor. I think it would definitely make a difference. Please continue with hormonal treatment as advised by the doctor.

Also as stated previously kindly ask a person who stay with you if they are able to perceive the odor or not.

Hope this answered your query.

Thank you for your response. I have been advised by my hormone Doctor to take the multivitamin etc. however I started taking the black seed oil and wood root tonic on my own. I will follow you suggestion and stop taking for a week as I believe they might have attributed to my problem. Do you think it would be a problem to go back on them every other day? Or any other form of modification?

Brief Answer:
multivitamin supplements can be continued but please stop the herbal oils

Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam,

Thank you for writing back with a detailed information.
If your doctor has suggested multivitamin supplements you can continue it along with the hormone replacement therapy.
However, the herbal oils can be stopped .
Please observe for a week.
I dont think any modifications are required . However, try to have a balanced diet with good amounts of fruits and vegetables as they contain antioxidants.
Drink 2 litres of water per day as it will help flush out toxins from your body.

Hope this answered your query.
