Suggest Treatment For Stomach Cramping And Black Diarrhea

Question: I have bouta of diarreaha monthly for about three years that just hit suddenly and without a fever.

Three days ago about four hours after eating I had strong stomach pain around my sternum. I started burping fouls sulfur-smelling burps and then suddenly I had sharp needle-like pain shooting in the middle of my back which spread to include needle-like pain in both shoulder blades, especially the left one.

I took pepto but it didn't help. Tried to sleep but needle feeling and cramping didn't stop. Had diaries that night and threw up pink vomit but attributed that to the pepto.

Day 2 & 3 more burping and crpong In stomach but no bowl movement.

Day 4 awoke with a string bout of do area that was black tar and stunk to high heaven! Had same symptoms three more times during the day. Was able to drink water and a small Coke for lunch. Had a normal dinner as appetite had returned. 2 hours later more stomach cramping and black diarrhea but this time not as foul smelling as it was throughout the day.

I am going to doctor in 2 days but am curious as to what this could be... .
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Black stools may be due to malena

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
Your symptoms are suggestive of a stomach inflammation. The black stools may mean malena which is due to oozing or bleeding into the stomach or duodenum. If it is persistent it may be better to visit the ER rather than waiting for 2 days.

Thank you! Is the needle like pain in my middle/upper back a symptom of a stomach inflammation or is that more related to the pancreas or gallbladder?

Brief Answer:
Likely to be an ulcer on the posterior wall of the duodenum or stomach

Detailed Answer:
If there is an ulcer on the posterior wall of the duodenum or stomach, the pain can be felt at the back. Pancreatitis pain can also be felt at the back and is relieved by sitting up and leaning forward. Gall bladder pain is usually felt below the lower border of the right scapula.
