Posted on Wed, 18 Mar 2015
Question: I'm a 51 yr old female with Sjogren's and perimenopausal. My last period was in December. Had 76 GLORIOUS days without that b**ch and then last night I started. Very slight spotting. This morning when I took my cup out to change and clean, it literally smelled like rotten meat. I'm a bit worried about this.

Brief Answer:
Can be a vaginal infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The bad smell from the cup can be due to the smell of the menstrual blood or due to a vaginal infection. You can wait for a day or two and see if the smell persists. In case there is associated itching then you need to have proper antibiotics to treat the infection.
Meanwhile maintain a good hygiene and change the cup every 6 hours. Do use a vaginal wash twice a day and see if the smell goes away with these measures.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
