Suggest Treatment For Soreness In The Knee

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Jan 2017
Question: My left knee has been sore for about three weeks. I can't bend it without discomfort. When I reach down to pick up something I have to go down slow. Sometime I experience a "snap" or "crack" when I straighten my leg and I feel pain. It's not swollen or inflamed it looks very normal. Advil helps a little. I've played golf the last two days. A typical ailment is not being able to pick the ball from the hole without pain. I work in sales so I'm in my car a lot. In and out of the car daily creating a situation where I put undue strain on my left knee as I kinda twist when I get in and out of my car. I will see a doctor soon but would like to have a heads up on what might be going on, Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Osteoarthritis likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the knee specially on bending is suggestive of osteoarthritic changes in the knee joint.
These are basically age related degenerative changes in the weight bearing joints like knee and is characterized by joint pain and stiffness. Upon movement the stiffness gradually relives. Sometimes application of hot pads can make the movement possible.
The treatment options include pain killers, hot fomentation, lubricating agents like glucosamine sulfate, chondroitin , dycerin, etc and some life style modifications and physiotherapy.
Right now you can start taking Tablet Tylenol ( Acetaminophen) Double Strength after breakfast and after dinner. It is suggested to add calcium supplements 500mg each twice daily. This will take care of your mild symptoms in 3-5 days.
You can start with walking and aerobic fitness exercises, quadriceps strengthening, patellar tapping, lateral heel wedges, etc- under the guidance of your physiotherapist.
A Big No to Stair case, squatting postures, any chair which has a sitting platform lower than your knees.
Knee brace can also be used for an earlier and prolonged relief.
I hope this answers your query.
