Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Pain In Ribs
Question: I woke up at 3am this morning with a bad sore throat. In addition, my left side under my ribs hurts. I finally was able to get comfortable and went back to sleep. I'm up now and the side is still hurting and so is my throat. Could this be serious?

Sudden onset of throat pain in your age should always be viewed with suspicion. The reason, many cases of myocardial infarction (heart attack) do present with simple sore throat without any other symptoms of infarction.
Also, another probable cause of the throat pain and the chest discomfort is gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD). When the acid from the stomach regurgitates into the throat, there is burning sensation or discomfort in the chest and the throat. This worsens during night time because of the supine position, which causes easy flow of the gastric contents into the throat.
My honest suggestion to you is, to visit your doctor at the earliest and get a complete check up done.
