Question: I had breast cancer and I have been clean for 2 years. It was stage 3 because it traveled to the lymph glands in my neck. I was treated with chemo, surgery (lumpectomy) and radiation. My question is I have had a soar throat for several months, loose bowels for 2 weeks, bloating, and tremendous gas. I also had my thyroid medicine changed and uped 1 level several months ago, and I think I have acid reflux. I am going to a doctor tomorrow but what could I be dealing with?

Brief Answer:
You are dealing with low immunity

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

I have read your query and you seem to be suffering from infections from low immunity.

Having a sore throat for several months means the normal flora is altered. It may happen due to unscrupulous antibiotic use and chemotherapy. Since antibiotic misuse is very common, in todays world such symptoms are not a big deal. A common sequel is development of fungal infection. A fungal infection can cause laxity of muscles and bacterial overgrowth. Bacterial overgrowth in gut can cause bloating and loose motions.

Basic tests should help narrow the cause. Antibiotics will help temporarily.

A few lifestyle measures will help curb your symptoms:
Alongwith I suggest that you take steps towards maintaining general well-being:
- Take regular exercise daily for atleast 30 min a day. It can include walk, yoga, swimming, cycling, gym, etc.
- Take hygienic food and cleaner drinking water lower TDS. This will ensure rule out a common source of infections.
- Take nutritious diet including more fruits and salad but avoid taking them cold. The aim is that you digest your food.
- Limit your intake of probiotics and curd as it may worsen your bacterial overgrowth
- Limit intake of complex protein foods like beans
- Avoid spicy foods, fried foods, sugary foods, dry foods like popcorn, crackers
- Also avoid fizzy drinks

Hope you understand what I said. Let me know if I can assist you further.
