Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Fever In Children

Question: my child 4 years old have sore throat from last two days as per Doctor, and I am using Augmentation Syrup,Serax tbalets and ORnidozo suspension.I am observing fever continuously ocmming evry 6 hours and I am using Meftal.Can I use Meftal every 6 hours?

Thanks for the query

The total dose of meftal(contains mefenemic acid) which is recommended in a day is 25 mg/kg/day in divided dosage.Usually it is prescribed as thrice daily,but it can be given 6 hourly depending on the frequency of fever.The total dose should not exceed 25 mg/kg/day.
You can give paracetamol along with meftal as both are of different group(if temperature is not coming down after giving meftal).You can also use paracetamol and mefenemic acid alternatively to control the temperature.
I will suggest you to do tepid sponging also as this is very effective in bringing down the temperature.
It may take 3-4 days for the temperature to start declining after starting antibiotic treatment.Make a temperature chart to monitor the pattern of fever.
I would like to know if there is any specific reason to give Serax tablet as it contains Oxazepam and does not seems to be related to the treatment of sore throat.

Thank you for your reply.actually problem is sor throat due to mumps or tonsils ...so serax tablets and Augmentin duo syrup suggested as antibiotic by My doctor.

Only my concern here is fever is coming every six hours due to that.so I am using meftal 5 ml for every six hours and fever is getting down.my doctor also said you can use meftal every six hours

As I have mentioned earlier you can give meftal 6 hourly. The dose should not exceed 25mg/kg/day.
The average weight of a 4 years old child is about 15 kg. If you are giving 5 ml (100 mg/5 ml) then the total daily dose will be 400 mg that is around 25 mg/kg/day.
