Question: In Dec I ripped a ventilator from my throat and damaged my right vocal cord. the vocal cord is very sore (or course, my voice is awful). I understand I may get my voce back in another 6-12 months. However, my sore throat is really bad. what can I take to help alleviate the pain?

As below:

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. To answer your question, I will require a recording of a Videolaryngoscopy or a Stroboscopy to see the extent of the internal injury. A CT of the larynx will also help rule out any underlying cartilage fracture that may be causing the pain so many months after the injury.

2. A judicious use of anti-inflammatory medication, painkillers and steroids will help control the pain.

3. One would expect a soft tissue injury to heal in 4-6 months, and as you have mentioned, nerve injuries may require a year to heal.

Hope, I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
