Question: My bowl habit has changed lately. For several years I have had bowl problems and have had an implant to help. I
would ooze all the time and when I did have a movement I would need to keep whipping many times. The implant has helped me a great deal. For several years I have worn heavy pads and I also have urinary incontinence. This last week I have had a slight urge or none at all and I would just flow with a soft stool all over my self and my clothes. This happened three times in 5 days. It has happened to me before but not this often, maybe once in 1-2 months. I am almost 76 years old and in very good health otherwise. I don't know if this could be cancer as I have had a brother with colon cancer. Thank you XXXXXX
Brief Answer:
Not cancer...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The soft stool flowing all over your clothes might be related to a viral infection (gastroenteritis) if you also have had flu like symptoms during this time. It does not necessary mean it is cancer.
If you have been taking antibiotics recently, they could be another cause due to changes made to intestinal flora.
I suggest to run further tests in order to evaluate your colon condition:
- abdominal ultrasound
- get your stool examined for ova/parasites
- culture the feces
- fecal occult blood
If any problem will be noticed, colonoscopy and barium swallow study is highly recommended.
For the time being, until the test results, I advise to:
- take tasectan and probiotics to improve bowel movements and intestinal flora respectively
- drink plenty of water
Hope it answered to your query! Feel free to ask me other questions you might have!
