Suggest Treatment For Sneezing And Coughing

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Feb 2015
Question: Was in Europe this week sneezing and coughing a lot - assumed bad allergies. Returned home yesterday and now jaw, head and under eyes all feel pressure and congestion seems to be getting worse. Heading to Japan on Sunday for 2 weeks. Don't want to over-react if it's just allergies, but should I see doctor about potential sinus infection or maybe head cold?

Brief Answer:
This could be sinus infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to healthcaremagic. I have gone through your question.

This could be sinus infection.

I recommend the following.
1) A course of antibiotics preferably fluroquinolones.
2) Steam inhalation to promote ventilation of sinuses and improve sinus drainage.
3) Antihistamine with montelukast.
4) Oxymetazoline nasal drops if nasal blockade present. Don't use this continuously for more than 6 days.
5) Analgesics like paracetamol sinus pain or headache.

Nothing to worry you will be alright.

You can consult a doctor for clinical examination and he might advice a X ray of sinuses for confirmation of sinus infection.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions, I am happy to help.

Wish you a speedy recovery.

Regards,

Dr Paparaja S MBBS MS
