Suggest Treatment For Sleeplessness

Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: Sometimes I have trouble sleeping, and when I do, the more I can't sleep, the more I panic, and stay awake. I get very scared and panicky, and I can't function the next day. My mind races about having to miss work. And I wonder why this keeps happening. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason. Please help me. I'm scared to death.

Brief Answer:
You should keep a sleep hygiene.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. You should keep a sleep hygiene.
-Don't use bed for anything other than sleep.
-Avoid mental and physical exercise close to sleep time.
-Avoid alcohol, caffiene or excess tea. Even avoid tea after 4 pm also.
-Check your blood pressure and if high take medication to control it.
-Keep a regular sleep schedule time.
-Breathing exercises will be helpful. You can take deep breaths.
-Get enough physical exercise daily.
-Avoid exposing long time to lights before sleeping time.
-Switch off all lights including night lamps during sleeping time.
-Keep your mind relaxed and avoid thinking about anything while going to sleep.

Vitamin B12 and B complex vitamin deficiencies also will be associated with insomnia. You can check your vitamin B12 levels. Taking B complex vitamin supplements will be helpful also.

If you have excessive depression also can result in insomnia. In such case a counselling with psychologist will be helpful. Sleeping pills are used only if all these not work.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
