Question: My 5 year old son sleeps at 10 at night and wakes up at 6 am in the morning. He has an hour to two hours of nap in the afternoon. Is there a problem with the hours of sleep that he gets. I so see some dark circles under his eyes occasionally and am a little worried about it.

Brief Answer:
I won't get worried as the sleeping hours are enough

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking on this platform

10 hours of sleep at this age is quite enough.
You are right, inadequate sleep is one of the common causes for dark circles around the eyes. But here as the sleep hours are sufficient I don't think this as a cause.
I would suggest you to give him diet rich in vitamins and iron like fruits/green leafy vegetables.
Hyperpigmentation is also a cause of darkening around the eyes.
The skin of area under the eye is thinnest part of body.So the blood vessels gets prominent sometimes and this causes transient dark circles around the eyes.I won't get worried if these dark circles are not permanent.

So I would suggest you to give him healthy, nutritious diet and observe if the dark circles persists. In case of persistence of dark circles, I would like to get him evaluated by an ophthalmologist and also a dermatologist for examination and management accordingly.

Please let me know if you have any more query.
Wishing for your baby's good health.
Regards
