Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Cefprozil

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Jan 2017
Question: I have been taking Cefprozil for the past 9 days. (500 mg every 12 hours) I am allergic to Amoxicilin. I have been taking this for a bad sinus infection. I have been noticing increased cough, hoarseness. wheezing, vaginal vulvo itching, numbing on the back area of my tongue, narrowing of airway (feeling like there is something in the back of my throat) and most of all moderate to severe edema in my feet, which I have not had. It is NOT due to salt intake. I do not salt my food and I have been paying particular attention to that the past 4-5 days since having the swelling issue and it is not anywhere else.

Brief Answer:
it may be an allergic reaction

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

cephalosporines like cefprozil cross-react with penicillins in approximately 4% of cases. The throat symptoms can sometimes be caused by the infection itself but since you've also got itching and leg edema you'd better visit your doctor for assessment and alternative options for treatment. It's great that you took the antihistamine but you have to visit your doctor too...

Vulvo-vaginal itching can be caused by fungal infection due to the antibiotic. Your doctor should help you with that.
