Suggest Treatment For Sharp Pain In The Knee

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Jun 2017
Question: I'm 53 yr old female. I have never had knee problems. Walked 14,000 steps this Saturday with no problems. But, about an hour ago I stood up from my desk and felt a sharp pain in my left knee. It hurts to walk. Sitting doesn't hurt much but any pressure on the leg causes sharp pain in the knee. Two ibuprofen dulled it enough to walk but still painful. My question is: How do I know if walking more will help it or staying off of it is best?

Brief Answer:
Get a clinical evaluation done

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. I would insist you to visit a doctor in order to get yourself evaluated and to rule out meniscal tear or ligament injury to the knee joint. I would insist you not to ignore the condition and to get the examination done at the earliest. That will determine if going for further walking would be a good idea. However, if things are fine you need not worry and you can go ahead with walking. 10,000 steps a day is usually recommended.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
