Suggest Treatment For Severe Urine Infection And Pain Near Vagina

default
Posted on Wed, 12 Aug 2015
Question: Hi
I have very bad urine infection for the last six weeks.. I am concerned as I have tried three antibiotics and it is still there.. I have pain lower down near the vaginal area.
do you think blood tests and an mri scan of the pelvis would be worth a scan..is an ultrasound of the pelvis a better idea..urine has been sent to the lab and it is normal..urine frequency and pain is my problem..should I see a gynaecologist or a urologist..see previous medical history if possible

Brief Answer:
You have UTI .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have UTI

It is likely that the antibiotics that you have taken may not be effective for the reason being that the organisms causing UTI may not be sensitive to those antibiotics.

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical examination and get following basic tests done under his guidance
1)Routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to
2) Ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis to rule out urinary stone

In the meanwhile take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixine along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkalizer thrice daily .Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water .To keep your urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Brief Answer:
Get the suggested preliminary tests done .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up .Your Gynecologist has carried out vaginal examination and is she suspecting some serious issue ?.for suggesting to get MRI done

Normally I prefer to do Ultrasound Scanning first and go for MRI if required or if Ultrasound Scanning is is inconclusive or detects any other suspicious pathology.

Routine urine test does not detect causative organisms .Doing urine culture will guide us to take appropriate antibiotics to combat infection .

Thanks and Ragards.

I had a fistogram (on the scan it reads fistogram) done in may.. is this the same thing.this suggested a fistula..have written on this site before.. where can I get a urine culture test done..should I have asked my doctor to get ultrasound scanning done for pelvis and abdominal instead..i am due to see my gynolcolgist on the 26th of August..i never had any major problems in this area.. only benign cists..had untrasound of pelvis done last year and all was fine..
I have spinal issues.. you can see from my note..s previously.. hope this is not the problem..

Brief Answer:
Read details below

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up.

Pain is bound to be there till the infection controlled .
Your urinary symptoms and pain are not related to disc problem in cervical region as the nerves innervation for Bladder comes from lower down in spinal cord.
