Suggest Treatment For Severe Stomach Cramps And Diarrhea
Question: For the past two nights, I have experienced severe stomach cramping with diarrhea. It comes and goes in waves for about four hours. Tonight/this morning was especially bad-unable to sleep at all, my stomach was cramping and sounded like it was gurgling. The cramping was so bad I couldn't stand up straight and my stomach was literally all puffed out. Eventually I could stand again after two hours and now seem to go to the bathroom once a hour (#2) and pass a bit of gas.
My two specific questions are - how do I treat this at home? And how do you know if this is nothing else more sinister like appendicitis?

Brief Answer:
Seems like infective diarrhoea
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through the description you have provided.
The symptoms seem to be of acute infective diarrhoea.
I would suggest you take plenty of oral fluids, ORS solution, I would suggest omeprazole once a day for a week. ( it is available as an over the counter medication).
I cannot be 100% sure that it is not appendicitis unless a physical exam and ultrasound is done. I would suggest you visit your doctor to get these done if you have fever, severe persistent pain/ blood in stools .
You also need to visit your doctor if cramps persist to get a prescription for antispasmodic meds
Hope this helps
