Question: My 21 yr old son on east coast went to er for shoulder pain. After an X-ray showed nothinng he left with 2 Rx. Ocycodone 5mg & Medrol. The oxy seems like overkill. No root cause just med. can you recommend an OTC instead? I'd like to have son try it tomorrow. Son was told to follow up with his dr. He is in school and does. O't have one.

I also need to find him a dr. In XXXXXXX He goes to Johns XXXXXXX - what is the best way to find one who tkes new patients.

Brief Answer:
Root cause of pain should be found out

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.
I have gone through your medical history in detail.

Well, instead of oxycodone and medrol (which are potent analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs and should be avoided as far as possible)
i would suggest tramadol, piroxicam or paracetamol which are considered reasonably safe.

But,pertaining to law,you need to confirm with the doctor which of the above are OTC drugs in your country.

To find a doctor in XXXXXXX you can google or find it out from your family physician.

In my personal opinion, instead of only giving him pain killer medicines, the reason for his shoulder pain needs to be found out by getting an MRI done.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.

Thank you.
Kind regards.
