Posted on Fri, 5 May 2017
Question: My daughter has severe plaque psoriasis. She is having a flare up and her body is covered with almost 70% of the sores. Her scalp is the worst. Her dermatologist only gives her creams but they aren't helping. She is on other medications: Lisinopril (20mg) Ropinirole (.25mgx2daily) Gabapentin (100mgx3daily) Gemfibrozil (600mg x 2daily) Lyrica 50mg) Norethindron (.35mg)
Not Helping: Clobetasol ointment (.05% 2xdaily to affected areas) Clobetasol solution (.05%x2daily to scalp)
Please help her.

Brief Answer:
Oral medication

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
With 70 % body area involvement creams would be of no use.
I treat such cases with an oral medication like methotrexate, to be taken once a week.
This medication needs to be prescribed based on blood reports.
Please meet your dermatologist and discuss regarding this.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.
