Suggest Treatment For Severe Pharyngitis

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Apr 2015
Question: In March I was really sick with severe pharyngitis with ulcers and had never had it before. During this, I got a sore on my back gum that went away after a few days. I had a previously planned dental appointment so I told him about it soon after. he said its not tooth related, nothing showed up on xrays, we did tests on each tooth nothing was an issue. He said you can get that sometimes from viruses. Anyway, now we're in April and I've had this weird sore on my back gum again, nearly the same place but this time it's got some white hard thing on it. I have no idea what this is but it's actually painful and it's been there for 4 days now or so. I have severe TMJ on that side of my jaw lately too, so much so that im taking painkillers every night to sleep. I don't know what's going on. I also got tested for mono recently, have pre diabetes. Have never had these issues before on the gum. Ill attach a photo- it's about the size of a pin head.
Also, I have had canker sores before and this does not feel like a canker sore. Those will usually hurt badly and go away in a couple days. This feels different.

Brief Answer:
nothing to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to healthcaremagic,

I have seen the picture you uploaded, it looks like you are suffering from an oral ulcer. Do not worry about it. It will go away on its own in a couple of days.

There are many causes for oral ulcers, common being viral infections, vitamin deficiencies, bad oral hygiene, sharp teeth, ill fitting dentures, drug reactions.
Many times it is very difficult to pin point the exact cause of these ulcers.

Most are self limiting and do not require any investigations or treatment.

For the pain you can use gels with local anaesthetic. These have to be applied 20 minutes before eating food. Also keep gargling with chlorhexidene mouth wash 3 times a day for a few days.

If the ulcers are very recurrent in the future then you have to see a physician to rule out drug reaction and vitamin deficiencies.

Feel free to follow up,
Regards,
