Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain When Suffering From Kidney Stones
Question: Hi had a ct scan showed kidney stone in right kidney and have been booked in for lithotripsy on 11 th december hasn't bothered me much twinges here and there last night was strange though had aching in front almost to genital area and it felt like I wanted a poo every few minutes very strange but no severe pain was wondering what this is and would it effect me getting lithotripsy thanks

What is the size of your stone?
If the stone is in the distal ureter and in the junction between the bladder and the ureter(tube that connects the bladder to the kidney where urine passes) then you feel urinary symptoms like urinary frequency and Strangury. You may also feel that the bladder is full and you want to urinate but only ending up urinating only a small amount of urine. You may also feel that you want to defecate but again no feces will come out. These above mentioned things are due to the stone lodged in the distal ureter.
Depending on the size of the stone whether you will be able to pass it out spontaneously or it will be stuck in the ureter. The size of 0.5cm stone will have a 80-90% of spontaneous passage. Drink plenty of fluids and try to strain your urine for stone that will come out.

Hi thanks so presuming this stuck where u say how long do u think it will be there and will I still be ok for lithotripsy if stone is moving how much does it move in this position

ESWL can also be done on the ureteral calculi but the best would be a ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy. Ureteroscopy has a higher stone free rate compared to ESWL. You may need another ct scan to confirm the size and location of your stone.

Hi thanks just must have been a one off night seems to have settled now it might still be in the kidney as if it had come down I think I would have really felt it hope it stays put or high as possible I don't want to get to litho and find its too low for it to have to come back they have the latest sonolith I - sys by Edap tms machine so u can lie on your back hoping this should give it more scope than the old ones where u had to lie facing down it says on brochure renal pelvis and ureter are 80 90 percent success rate
