Posted on Fri, 18 Nov 2016
Question: I am one of the "older" generation suffering from chronic pain ~ neck fracture which left me paralyzed from the neck down, which I was forced to let swelling diminish to the point I got the feeling back in R side, but then woke up paralyzed from waist down & over 8 yr span had 6 spinal ops - fusing back from top to "bottom" literally! Recently MRI has revealed torn meniscus L knee; awaiting MRI to verify how bad the Labrum tear on L shoulder is: scoliosis mid level spine [almost 3" shorter]: permanent foot drag R foot & makes perm. usuage of 3 wheel walker necessary. Probably worst of all was having to tolerate almost 10 years of phys abusive marriage ending in 4 year restraining order in place [while ex continues to stalk me] and the scars that has left me with. The pain clinic I've been using last 8 years in process of just tapering pain meds to minor amount of Norco for break thru pain and they have absolutely NO interest in being advocate for Me ` a Human being in extreme pain & no hope to expect a Dr that cares what my quality of life is at this point!!! I am frustrated to the point of how to deal with this Chronic Pain, and how I'm supposed to go forward living like this.

Brief Answer:
Positive outlook. Buprenorphine patch

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

I can understand what you are going through and I applaud that you have the courage to do so.

The pain management is a continual support system that needs to be updated according to the needs and situation.

Since you already are on narcotic medication, I would recommend you consult your Physician regarding the use of Buprenorphine patch for pain management. Also physiotherapy with Ultrasound and TENS will help in pain relief around the knee and shoulder.

Most importantly, you must have a positive outlook to everything and strongly believe that you are doing well and continually getting better. This will alter the mind to body relationship and help in excellent symptom management.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Regards,

Dr. Aashish Raghu
