Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Scrotum

default
Posted on Wed, 21 Oct 2015
Question: Hi,

First some back story. Back on July 8 (coincidentally enough, my 33rd Birthday), I felt a horrible pain in my scrotum. I bared with it, and in a few days it dwindled (day by day) I paid no attention to it as I figured I probably pulled something when I climbed a long flight of stairs a few days prior.
Almost exatly a month later, the dwindling, dull pain was still there, so I went to my doctor who then sent me for a scrotal ultrasound on August 25th. The next day, I called to see what was what and they told me I had small indication of a varicocele on the left, and in each epididtymus they found cysts, slightly complicated on the left containing calcifications. I have more than two of these cysts on each side as well. I was told none of this was anything to worry about, and "most people just live with them" so I let it go, but the pain was STILL there and nagging at me.
I waited a while but eventually on the nagging pain (by the way, it sort of feels like someone's lightly, randomly pinching me down there) got to me enough that I called again, and long story short I'm all set to see a urologist on December 8th, but that's more than two months from now, and this lingering sensation has been with me now for nearly 3 months.
I called my doctor again to see if there was something I could at least do for the pain in the meantime, next thing I know he gives me antibiotics for STDs I might not even have and sends me to the lab to do a urine and blood test (the results of which I'm still waiting on, so if I don't have any sort of STD, I just wasted money on antibiotics that I don't even need) This all took place yesterday.
So now I'm sitting here pulling my hair out because this random pinching sensation is like Chinese Water Torture or something. It's not enough to wake me up at night, or keep me up, but it's just annoying.
Precautions I HAVE already taken include adopting a new diet consisting of anti-inflammatory foods, and Googling all the answers I possibly can.
My deepest fear here is the potential need for surgical removal of the cysts, but on the other hand these cysts aren't even visible to the naked eye, so I can't REALLY imagine they'd be big enough to be causing this nagging pain, but I also don't know what else it could possibly be.
I read a couple of things online that say this pain is rather common in newly developing cysts and can last up to 3-6 months. It will be 3 months on October 8th, so I'm hoping it subsides soon as I'd like to actually ENJOY my Thanksgiving (I'm Canadian) and Halloween especially, as it's my favourite holiday. I don't want to have to wait until December 8th for an answer and be suffering from this annoyance for the next two months.
Is there ANYTHING at all I can do to relieve this pain in the meantime? If I absolutely MUST go through with surgery I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet as apparently other options aren't recommended as highly due to risk of recurrence, but the idea of the procedure scares the living hell out of me to the point that I've recently been having terrible nightmares.
I need my mind at ease, please, dear God, help me! This is literally driving me to tears, not due to pain, but my mind going topsy-turvy and this agonizing randomized pinching I feel throughout the day.

Brief Answer:
Discomfort in scrotum that you have could be due to cyst .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that on ultrasound scanning you have been detected to have two small Epididymal cysts on both sides.

In most of the cases these cysts are benign in nature and no treatment is required .Treatment (Surgery) is advised only in a situation when there is increase in size of the cysts or it gets infected .

The discomfort in scrotum that you have could be mostly due to tension within cysts and can be managed with anti inflammatory medication like Diclofenac twice daily along with wearing a scrotal support inner wares .

There is nothing to be worried about .It is your apprehension and anxiety that is bothering you .

Please stay calm and wait for few more months it will get resolved spontaneously .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Thank you for your help, Dr. XXXXXXX This puts my mind at ease. I will at least get the scrotal support for the time being, try to be patient, and wait to see what my urologist says/prescribes. I read a few things on line that suggest scrotal support to help with scrotal pain, so I really should try it.

God bless, and thanks again!

Follow up question:

Should I refrain from ejaculation? I have been relieving myself about once a week, and this morning upon ejaculation, things hurt pretty badly. When I went to pull my pants back up I got a stabbing pain on both sides of the scrotum, so I'm guessing that was the cysts. Didn't have that sharp pain last week or any time before.
