Question: Hello, I recently asked a question and received a very good answer. I have another concern. My sister was rushed to the hospital as w result of a severe nose bleed. She was at a family gathering and started laughing really hard and afterward could not her nose from bleeding and had to go to ER Which stated a blood vessel burst. Since that time it has been over a week and her nose continue to bleed not as severe but after she blows her nose. Can someone expound on why this is happening? Do blood vessels heal?

Brief Answer:
Could be due to raised BP or due to intranasal pathology like polyp

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking once again on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and feel that I can interpret what could have happened. There are two risk factors to consider. The first is increased blood pressure. If that is the case, the veins would possibly have been engorged already and the increase in local pressure while forcefully blowing her nose should have been enough to rupture a blood vessel and cause the bleeding. The other possibility to consider is some intranasal pathology like nasal polyp which made her vulnerable and the increase in local pressure caused by the forceful blowing of her nose precipitated the episode.

Blood vessels re-seal (heal). Unless that had happened, the bleeding would never have stopped.

She should abstain from blowing nose under any circumstance. She should get an ENT evaluation. Based on the findings further interventions can be planned.
