Brief Answer:
Veins thrombosis is possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Usually such symptoms appear due to some injury. So not knowing what has triggered it, is always hard to determine the reason. It can be blood clot (veins thrombosis). As it lasts for few weeks, such thrombosis is not dangerous anymore.

As the pain is behind the knee, Beckers cyst which has ruptured is also possible. You could have a lump under the knee for a while before it has happen.

Sprained muscle is of course a possibility, but only in case of injury.

I suggest you to consult orthopedist with this problem. Physical examination of your limb can give a lot of information. For sure an x-ray, soft tissues ultrasound and Doppler veins ultrasound are necessary.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
