Suggest Treatment For Severe Muscle Pain While Treating Breast Cancer

Posted on Tue, 30 Dec 2014
Question: Hello I was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2010 and received 4 sessions of chemotherapy followed by a mastectomy in May 2011. This treatment was followed by tamoxifen tablets until January this year. I stopped taking them because of very severe muscle spasm and muscle pain. In July I went for a checkup to the oncologist and was told, after CT Scans that there are a few very small spots in my lungs as well as signs of the cancer in my femur bone. I have had one injection of faslodex with more to follow. I will also be treated with drip I think using Zobone to strengthen my bones. The question I am asking is:
What is my prognosis? What are the effects of having this treatment? I must admit that I am afraid because I don't know what is happening and what to expect. Could you please give me some indication what to expect. Many thanks XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Consideration

Detailed Answer:
thanks for sending the question,

The overall prognosis for hormone receptor positive breast cancer in the setting of disease recurrence has improved significantly over the past 10 years. We have new medications which target the hormone receptor driven nature of this particular cancer which can be used for many many years to keep the disease under good control.

Your Dr. we'll also use Zometa to help strengthen your bones as well.

If at any point the disease progresses despite the use of hormone therapy your doctor has the option of considering systemic chemotherapy to keep the disease under control as well.

I completely understand the anxiety associated with this current situation but you should be assured that we have excellent treatments available which can keep this under control for many many years.

Thank you again for sending the question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
