Suggest Treatment For Severe Muscle Cramps In The Toes

default
Posted on Thu, 17 Aug 2017
Question: hi I have been getting severe cramping in my toes of both feet, it's ok during the day as I have weight on my toes, but when I am lying on the couch at night or in bed trying to get to sleep that they cramp. I don't drink water as such (I've never been a big water drinker all my life) perhaps this is an issue not sure? Should I go and get blood tests done to check for low levels of magnesium, potassium etc? Do you recommend I go and see a Neurologist if blood tests come back ok?

Brief Answer:
Yes, get tests for electrolytes levels in the first place.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HealthcareMagic.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

I think you are right, one of the possible causes of muscles cramps is dehydration and electrolytes imbalance, besides fatigue, poor blood circulation, and neurological disorders such peripheral neuropathy, etc.

So, staying well hydrated and getting tested for electrolytes levels in the blood should be the first step.

Please discuss first with your primary care Doctor about these issues.

If s/he founds anything neurological in your condition or tests came back okay, you could see your Neurologist.

Hope you found the answer helpful. Feel free to ask further.

Kind regards.
