Brief Answer:
If severe migraine persists, preventive treatment is necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

Two are the main treatment possibilities about migraine headaches:

1. Acute ( or abortive )

2. Preventive treatment.

Treatment strategy depends on the frequency and severity of your headaches, the degree of disability your headaches cause, and your other medical conditions.

If severe, long lasting and four or more migraine headaches per month, preventive treatment is recommended. ( beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, antidepressants, antiseizure drugs ).

Fioricet is used primarily to treat tension headaches, but it can be used to treat migraine headaches too, even it is not included on the FDA list for this purpose, so, in my opinion, you can use it.

Another thing to consider is that migraine headaches tend to diminish in intensity and frequency as you age, if new kind of headaches are experienced, or there was no improvement after all these years, imaging studies ( brain MRI ) are necessary to evaluate any other causes of headaches.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
