Question: Hello,

I am a 33 year old female with a history of past parasitic infections. I am experiencing severe lower back pain and my urine smells has a familiar parasite smell, has a lot of visible protein and I am urinating very frequently.

So, although you might have observed some specific sort of odor while you possibly had some parasitic infection, it does not mean that the odor is indicative of having a parasitic infection. So, I would not really get worried about the typical odor in urine. Rather, the associated back pain as well as the other mentioned symptoms could indicate that you are having an urinary tract infection (UTI) and it would be a good idea to get a routine microscopy and culture sensitivity of your urine done. Depending on the reports suitable treatment can ensue.

The back pain could also be due to the increased weight of the uterus as the pregnancy progresses. Your gynecologist/obstetrician could better comment on this.
