Question: hi... I am overweight. obese in medical terms. a couple of weeks ago I have been waking up in the middle of the night with HORRIBLE knee pain, my left knee. i do not have any idea what brought this on. all I know is the pain is excruciating. does my knee look swollen to you? its hard for me to judge bc I am very large in general so I can't really tell. after about 10 or 15 minutes when I am finally able to get around the pain goes away and does not bother me again until the next night but it doesn't happen every night but probably every other night. any ideas? i have attached 2 pictures. please tell me if you cannot see the pics

Brief Answer:
It could be inflamation in knee joint.(arthritis).

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to the HCM.
Dear thankyou for your question. What I can see in the pics ,there is swelling in knee joint.Which is called arthritis.Since this is very common in overweight even sometime no cause is known.
I would suggest get Xray knee joint done and discuss with the ortho doctor ,to see what extent of joint is inflamed ,so it can be treated accordingly. I would also like to suggest, get routine tests like C.B.C,ESR ,CPR and RA factor done ,to rule out the other cause of inflammation other than overweight.
The pain and inflamation can be decreased with taking non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) like acitaminophen and naproxen.
Hopefully I answered your question. You may ask further without hesitation.
Regards,
Dr.Maheshwari
