Suggest Treatment For Severe Itching In The Pubic Area

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Nov 2016
Question: Hello,

I have been having an itching on my public area just to the left side of my penis. This has been going on for months and it's always the same spot with no bumps or lesions. What can it be? Or is it all in my head since I have been paranoid about my sexual life style? Also, I did have a bump appear a couple weeks ago around the itching area, but it seems like ingrown hair.

Picture has been attached.

I also want to mention the fact that ingrown hair bump was not itchy or not burning. After accidentally pooing it, it bled a lot and I was able to see a small hair come out of it . So, I'm guessing this has nothing to do with the itching problem I have been having?

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear
Welcome to HCM and thanks for the query
I understand your concern and see your attached picture.

Your symptoms could be due to folliculitis, gonorrhea, chlamydia infection.
Chemical irritation and trauma cause folliculitis and cause itchiness.
I would suggest to consult the dermatologist and undergo tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia.
I would suggest to go for The 4th generation test or DUO (Combo) test after 90 days of unprotected sex to rule out any STDs.
Apply bacitracin ointment.
Avoid sweats in affected area and maintain proper hygiene.
Use antibacterial soap.
Tablet doxycycline 250 mg twice daily for 1 week cover the all the possible infection.
So meet the dermatologist to share my idea and take prescribed drugs.

Hope I have answered your query
If you have further query then I will be happy to help you

Thank you for your reply. One last question; Let's say that I don't visit a doctor to get tested for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia, and I just claim that I have it. What happens if I take medicine for it without knowing for sure if I have it or not?

Hello dear
Welcome back and thanks for the query
I understand your concern

It is better to take under the advice of the dermatologist after confirming the diagnosis.
Treatment will depend on the test result and also help to know the progress of the disease.
So I would suggest to take prescribed drug under supervision only.
There may be chance of the side effect if you will take without confirming the disease.
