Brief Answer:
It needs evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that hip pain at this age needs evaluation, we cant ignore this . I would like to know whether you had any fall or even trivial injury because that can give rise to hair line fractures that can lead to night pains . Other thing is age related osteoarthritic changes of hip , which can give rise to similar complaints .

So please give any other history that you feel is relevant so that we can understand your problem and help you in best possible way.

Take care.

No falls of any kind. I play golf but not yet this year. I ride my stationary bike 4 miles every other day. Must be some type of arthritic pain as I have pain in the right elbow and my hands. I am on blood pressure medication Amlodipine 5mg tab.
I was also diagnosed with Microscopic Ulcerative Colitis 8 years ago. No meds for that as the side effects are intolerable. What a mess I am LOL

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for reverting back.

Well from the information and history that you have given most important is that you had ulcerative colitis which is known to give rise to arthritis for which characteristic is hip pain which results due to sacroillitis .

So there is a strong suspicion that you may be suffering from Enteropathic arthritis. For this you will need to see rheumatologist and your MRI of both hip joints is required to see the possibility of sacroillitis . Aleve contains naproxen which is an NSAID so its basic action is being an antiinflammatory drug thus it relieves the inflammation going on in hip joint which gives you pain relief .

Also getting inflammatory marker like CRP , ESR etc. is also required . If the diagnosis is confirmed you will probably be started on sulphasalazine.

Any other concerns let me know.

Dr. Shruti
