Brief Answer:
Proton pump inhibitors are very safe.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for choosing HCM for your query.
Omeprazole and all other proton pump inhibitors are very safe medicines and can be taken for years without any side effect,So don't worry much about that. Please request your Gastroenterologist to prescribe you Levosulpiride or Domperidone 30 mg once daily in combination with proton pump inhibitor. This will help you symptomatically in long term
.Acotiamide can also be added to your regimen thrice daily . Please discuss these options with your Gastroenterologist.
However a endoscopy should be done to rule out infection by H.Pylori bacteria.

I have been having stomach issues for several weeks now. I initially went to a Emergent Care clinic when the pain started. They referred me to a GI specialist. I wasn t able to get in to see the GI specialist for 2 weeks and when I did, after examination they recommended both a colonoscopy & endoscopy which is not scheduled for another couple of weeks. I asked if they were going to give me a scan to rule out anything before the endoscopies and he said he didn t want to subject me to unnecessary radiation if it can be diagnosed with a endoscopy. But that is still several weeks away. I am in a lot of pain, at first it was kind of all over my stomach, then in the center, now localized to the right side. I am not vomiting, but have some acid reflux, gas, and several loose stools and diarrhea each day. The pain is what concerns me as it is sharp shooting and most often right after I eat, but sometimes all the time. After reading some of the symptoms I am concerned about appendicitis. My symptoms started weeks ago. Have they been going on to long to be related to that?

I have been diagnosed with microscopic colitis, I am currently on Entocort EC. Along with being treated for depression, and gerd. Since I have been on Entocort EC I have gained a lot of weight, more than 30 lbs. I am wondering if it could be because of the medication, and if it is how do I convince my Doctors, that I am just not overeating. I have mentioned to both my Gastro, and my primary and they just seem to believe that I am lazy, and overeating. I have not changed my habits since starting on this med. Thank you for anything you can do to help me. Sue Dean

I suffer from acidity very often. I have done a USG of total abdomen and everything is fine, however, my endoscopy dated March 2006 detected esophagitis and GE lax. The doc has told me that It s incurable and I have it from birth. However, I do not have much reflux problem. I just have acidity problems where I get burning sensation in my esophagus.
