Question: hello doctor.!
I am 32yrs old unmarried guy from XXXXXXX a month before there was a blood donation drive in my office so with an excitement I had donated blood for the very first time. But unfortunately they have taken 450ml(I shouldn't have allowed them to take that much) and after 5mins of donation I had passed out for couple of minutes and came to normal state (thank God :) for that). Then After 10 days from that incident I had fallen sick because of stomach infection(pain was unbearable) so doctors gave me some antibiotics through IV and I had become normal. However I keep getting fever in the evenings so again I consulted a doctor and she suggested me to under go some serum tests(Hemoglobin, platelet count, malaria, typhoid, dengue.. ) later seeing the reports she said I was effected with Typhoid so she had prescribed some pills for Typhoid (now no Typhoid though) and also Hemp Up capsules (daily one capsule after lunch) for my hemoglobin raise because my report shows below min level.
Now I have been facing too much of hair loss and I have a feeling that I am suffering with iron deficiency so I rechecked my blood reports and most of the thing are not in the right range specially HB:11.8%, MCV-77.3%, MCH:23.4fi & MCHC:30.3g/dl so I wonder do I need to take some iron supplement to keep my iron (Ferretin) levels normal??
If so which supplement is best??
Would this be a problem that I am loosing too much hair??

Please find the attachments.

Your reply would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You should check your iron and ferritin level once.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

You have typhoid fever and you take treatment.

You are facing problem of hair loss. It can be due to iron deficiency anemia or some other issue.

Now your MCV, MCH and MCHC all are low. It suggest hypochromic microcytic anemia. Most probably it is due to iron deficiency but still you should check your iron and ferritin level once.

If iron and ferritin levels are low then you should take iron supplement treatment.

You can take ferrous sulphate or ferrous fumarate tablets along with zink supplement. Also take iron rich food like jaggery, dates, dry fruit, green leafy vegetables etc.

Check your TSH level also. because hypothyroidism can also leads to hairfall.

Hope I have answered your question. if you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer.
