Suggest Treatment For Severe Fibromyalgia

default
Posted on Mon, 8 May 2017
Question: I'm a 45yr old married woman of two adult children. I have chronic pain for no underlying reason they can find. they finale labeled me as having fibromyalgia. i do have the joint pain in all their required areas, but i have a lot of other pain not related to fibro. for example, i feel as if I'm passing kidney stones ALL the time! one had 3 stones surgically removed. i have chronic right flank pain that doubles me over. This makes it hard to function around the house let alone work. I've tried taking neutron, didn't work. cymbalta, nothing. 8 take vitamin B12 with D3 and that had helped some. currently on 30mg of oxycodone up to 4times a day. fentanyl patches 5pmcg change patch every 48hrs, Meloxicam 15 mg, use for my shoulders, that works great! i don't want to be on narcotics.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

I am sorry to know that despite the best effort of treating doctors a proper cause for ongoing pain can not be found. I understand your agony while having a label of fibromyalgia but the recommended guidelines state that if you do not find any cause and there is pain on particular points, diagnosis of fibromyalgia can be considered.

First of all I do not think you need to worried about use of narocotics provided you use them as per prescription and never beyond it. Alike other medications they are the part of treatment and there are indications for them. Since you were not functional to any extent, prescription of narcotics can rationalized.

In case you feel better over time an gradual attempt to withdraw the narcotics medications can be considered. In my opinion with increased functioning there will be reduced dose of narcotics and it can be hoped that we can withdraw atleast some part of medications in next six months.

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.

My problem is that my pain management clinic wasn't financially beneficial to the hospital so they closed it down. I've always taken less than prescribed and weaned myself down. BUT now, i cannot find a passion management doctor who will prescribe me the dose I'm used to and i need i prior authorization since they just changed how many pain pills i can take. They only allow 4 pills and last month, i was prescribed 7 pills. My primary doctor will NOT prescribe any narcotics. So i don't know what to do.

Follow up

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up.

From the available additional information it appears that you are searching for a pain management doctor which are difficult to find in most cities. Those available are overbooked and mostly do not take new patients unless it is something like emergency.

If you have a state funded hospital in your city they must have pain specialist either on regular basis or on partite basis. You need to put your papers to the hospital and need to inform that there is need for pain medications. Since you have always used less than prescribed medication it will be easy to put your case.

In addition keep on looking for another doctor/hospital in your city who have pain management board. I understand that it is not easy but hope that you will find one as in near future.

I hope this helps you further.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
