Question: Our son Rishit is 22 months old. He has got fever from last 2 days nd vomited only once on the first day(which was watery but no food solids). We are unable to measure the fever as he doesn't allows us to and starts crying very hard. We are giving him calpol paracetamol drops 1.5 ml every 6 hours. His body is warm almost throughout the day. Even if we give medicine the fever reduces but doesn't goes off completely. He is not able to sleep properly either during day or night and is very restless and cranky. His food is also reduced to very little with almost no milk. he has got little cough (dry) also.Kindly suggest. Also please do let us know if we should go to hospital to consult a doctor.

Brief Answer:
It would be wise to see a doctor...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I apologize for the late reply. I went through the details you posted. Based on your description it seems like your son is suffering from an infection - a viral perhaps. My suspicion that it is viral is purely based on the fact that it is the most common infection at this age. However since he is irritable, has history of cough and reduced feeding it will be a good idea to get him examined physically - and to make sure we are not missing on any ominous signs.

That being said, if the child is active and playful in between fever spells, it should not be concerning state.

In the meanwhile please continue with appropriate dose of paracetamol. I hope you are giving him the right dose.

Hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
