Question: my brother has had heavy diarrhea for a day, he has taken medicines such as pepto bismol and ammonium to no avail. He also has a severe stomach ache.

Hi
Diarrhoea could be due to ingestion of contaminated food or water.
I prescribe Antibiotic like Rifaximin 200mg twice daily along with Tablet Rabeprazole 20mg twice daily to my patients with similar complaints.Metronidazole will be added if Amoebiasis is suspected.Oral rehydration solution should be taken.
Please stop the medicine that he is taking now.
As he needs Antibiotic prescription,please consult your doctor.
