Suggest Treatment For Severe Chest Pain And Fatigue

default
Posted on Mon, 25 Jul 2016
Question: I have been having some chest pain, not sharp, just aching, and get more tired that usual when doing physical work. I have tried asthma inhalers which worked for a while then stopped, and had chest xray and blood tests which are all normal. Should I try a blood thinner in case I have blocked arteries ? I am 63 y.o., normal weight, don't smoke. What would you suggest as the next step ?

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that it is necessary to perform further investigations, besides routine blood work, to investigate for the possible cause of your chest pain:

- a resting ECG and cardiac ultrasound to examine your cardiac function and structure
- a cardiac stress test to investigate for possible coronary artery disease (which means narrowed arteries)
- respiration function tests (as your symptoms have been relieved by asthma inhalers)
- inflammation tests (PCR, sedimentation rate).

If all these tests result normal, you have nothing to worry about!

I recommend consulting with your attending physician and discussing on the above issues.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
