Suggest Treatment For Severe Body Pain And Fibromyalgia

default
Posted on Fri, 9 Dec 2016
Question: I have severe, all over large muscles body pain. It started last November. I went to a concert in New XXXXXXX I know I picked up what my pain doctor calls, "some rare virus" ...although he has not offered to help by looking into it. At that time I did also catch epstein barre (mono) as well and was sick horribly with respiratory type illness. I think maybe I developed fibromyalgia. But what if it is a rare virus? I am in severe pain all the time, Worst is when I get up from sleeping, or sitting. The pain seems centered in both my hips. I did have IT Band Surgery in both hips. The left hip in 2009, the right hip in 2012. The pain doctor thinks the pain is caused by these surgeries however, I am not so sure...This pain actually started about 2 months after November, 2015..or January, 2016.

I do see now where I asked you the same question roughly, from January of 2016. Can you see now clearly, this pain problem has not only continued until now but has become much more severe. I have normal TSH level, CBC is normal.

Please one of you help me! I need guidance! I need to know what to tell my doctor to order in the way of labs, etc. Also note I was a Medical Technologist in area hospital laboratories for 15 years, and I worked mostly hematology but also all of the lab departments as well. I must tell you right now, because of this pain the quality of my life has gone WAY down. I am other wise a very healthy, non-smoker. In the past year I have lost 50 pounds. I now fit into size 10 jeans. I still stay active all the time no matter the pain. I am also a minister. If I did not have people in my life I care about for a reason to live and also because I believe suicide is against God's plan, I would do it. This is how bad my pain always is.

Brief Answer:
A further neurological&hormonal evaluation required as following...

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

I read your message carefully and understood your health issues.

Before I run into my conclusions I would like to know if you have seen any neurologist doctor or rheumatologist before or recently?

If not, my suggestion is that you must see a good neurologist first to evaluate the situation of your nerves (if damaged at what extent; if no damage is there any malfunction?) and plan a long-term treatment and rehabilitation.

Epstein barre virus after some time of the first manifestation (respiratory infection in your case) can cause other health troubles which are important to know and difficult to manage.

The Epstein barre virus may cause neurological troubles and cause tingling sensations, numbness, pain all over the body etc. This virus is said to cause multiple sclerosis or Guilliam barre syndrome.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) usually affects the young ages because it is due to a genetic disorder but viruses can manipulate the genetic data and this is why the Epstein barre virus can cause it.

In Guilliam barre syndrome, the pain starts in the feet and legs first that spreads in the upper body gradually. It must be treated urgently as it is considered as an emergency.

Specific tests will need to be done including EEG, EMG, and MRI. A full neurological examination is necessary, that's why I said first to get a consultation with neurologist.

If you will be diagnosed with any of these two conditions mentioned above, you will go through a long time treatment but your quality of lif will get improved for sure. Physiotherapy, medication, patient education etc. will be involved in managing your case.

If the diagnostic procedures will show that you do not have any neurological trouble then you must have some joint trouble especially the hip.

You are a premenopause woman and you may have trouble with your hormone balances. Some women when in premenopause develop arthritis which sometimes can be general.

A valuation of your hormones is needed and also the opinion of a rheumatologist. You have done surgeries in both hips so there is a high chance that after surgeries arthritis is developed and causes the excessive pain, especially in mornings.

I too think you can manage the pain after understanding what causes it. I too think that suicide is against God's plan, and you shouldn't think over suicide, never. You are strong enough to overcome all these problems successfully if you believe in God.

Losing weight will help manage the pain too. As oxycodone is not helping, I suggest to discuss with your doctor to change to another more potent analgesic. Can also take other over the counter pain killers like ibuprofen, ketoprofen, etc. to ease the pain.
Discuss with your physiotherapist about best exercise to manage the pain.

Hope I helped you somehow. Good luck.
