Question: Can a spinal injury cause alternating rib cartilege tears, lower back pain and shoulder pain. This has been going on for 5 weeks. One side heals then the other side gets injured. The ribtears have been very painful. I felt best when standing up. I could walk fine, no back pain. .Sorry, but I had lower back pain. Went to PT yesterday and lower back pain worse.

Brief Answer:
Tietze syndrome. Spine MRI needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Rib cartilage inflammation can occur in Tietze syndrome causing Costochondritis.

It can also be part of Seronegative arthritis.

Do get an MRI of the spine to look for nerve root compression which can cause these symptoms.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thanks and regards.
