Suggest Treatment For Severe Anxiety

Question: I get anxiety because I'm a college student at the University of Arizona. Consequently, because of my anxiety, I missed an online Final exam... I do not know what to tell my professor "Hey professor, I get severe anxiety and that's why I missed your exam". Is there any way to get an excuse note so that I may have an opportunity to take it?

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Welcome back to HCM.

I have gone over your previous answers in detail, and over your clinical exam. You do warrant a note excusing you from this exam. I have written this and emailed it to you to give your professor. Please let me know you have received it!

I would like to take this opportunity to educate you about cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT, as you request.

CBT focuses on negative automatic thoughts that we all have, but which in some people can cause intense anxiety and worrying, which can become a long spiral into constant fear and worry.

CBT focuses on examining those negative thoughts when they happen, and working together with you to develop tools to overcome those negative thoughts and replace them with more rational thoughts.

Through consistent practice, this behavior will become automatic, and your anxiety will melt away. This is the standard treatment for the anxiety you describe, and it could significantly improve your performance in school and help you reach your goals.
