I have had a hysterectomy due to finroids and I lost my left ovay and eft tube 4 years ago due to a dermoid cyst.

Brief Answer:
MRI test done to rule out the pathology.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to us about it.

I can understand your concern here.

I have gone through your history and in my opinion you should first go for the MRI test to rule out the pathology your symptoms.

Your symptoms can be most likely due to tuboovarian abscess due to PID (pelvic inflammatory disease). Chances of ovarian tumours both being and malignant ovarian cyst or cancer are very uncommon. So don't be worried.

However I will insist you to undergo MRI test which is really effected in establishing a diagnosis. Discuss with your treating doctor.

Hope it is useful, feel free to ask more question.

Good luck.

I already had a ct scan. They are no reccomending an MRI. I do not have a uterus or left ovary/tube. I only have my right ovary and tube which is enlarged and inhomogenisus. I also have fluid in my cul de sac that says its complex. The er only sent me home on pain meds which are doing nothing and I can barely walk. My blood work showed elevated wbc and rbc in my urine. No antibiotics were given. I cant get in to see my gyn until Tuesday. What should I do for pain as I'm miserable. Do you think I have PID, if so how can that be treated?

Brief Answer:
Most probably PID and UTI need antibiotics.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Nice to hear from you once again.

MRI is better than CT scan and it is an effective test in detecting ovarian pathology and differentiate between benign and malignant ovarian pathology.

With your symptoms, it can be PID (pain along right side abdomen, urine infection, fluid in cul de sac and abnormal vaginal discharge). Are you having any vaginal discharge along with pain?

PID can be treated with antibiotic and more than 2 antibiotic combination is used to treat it. (Metrogyl is used after doctor consultation).

Laparoscopy is used to diagnose PID.

You can use pain killer for pain and pain subside after antibiotic treatment.

Your partner should be treated simultaneously if PID is there.

Usage of a condom is very important.

Hope it is useful.

Good luck.

No vaginal discharge. I'm in sugnifficant pain and sick to my stomach with vomitting. Is it safe to wait to see the gyn on Tuesday or should I seek medical care sooner ?

Brief Answer:
Take medical care sooner.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

As you have significant pain and if you are having PID than chances of spread of infection are always there.

So sooner is better.

Hope it is useful.

Good luck.
